Pompeii

The first of Arin’s completed works, his “réalisation de pivotale”, and the work that corporealized his vision. Pompeii is derivative of “pompe” which means five. Depicted in the stone are five elements that synthesize to complete a transcensive mirage of the destruction of Pompeii – human, beast, fire, water, and wind. However, there also exists a dichotomy – that of life and death and that of hope amidst despair. At the moment of cessation of one form of existence, there exists fluidity of motion and expression of vitality. There is a marked realization of the immortality of spirit and a pining for life, perhaps even of an alternative dimension.
